Disaster Recovery Centers (DRC) Opening In Two Locations

On Friday, August 27, 2010, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) informed the Cook County Department of Homeland Security & Emergency Management (DHSEM) of the opening on Saturday, August 28, 2010 of two (2) Disaster Recovery Centers (DRC) in Cook County.  The DRC’s will assist residents who wish to fill out an application for aid due to flood damages that occurred on July 23 and 24, 2010.

FEMA is working very hard to assist the residents in Cook County affected by the floods.  This is another easy way for residents to apply for FEMA relief.

Cook County residents can complete the FEMA forms online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling FEMA at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), (TTY) 1-800-462-7585, seven days a week, between the hours of 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. CDT.

The purpose of the Cook County Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management is to organize and coordinate the countywide preparedness efforts along with the response to and the recovery from any disaster or declared emergency within all unincorporated areas of Cook County and elsewhere in the County upon the request by the local elected officials. In addition, the department will develop and aid in the emergency planning process, preparedness process, and will seek to mitigate all known threats whenever possible.
